Squids are passive mobs that are never hostile towards the player. Squids spawn in water between layers 46 and sea level, and can be found in any biome. Squids will wander around aimlessly, swimming up and down through each layer. When attacked by a player they will try to run away from the player if possible. They do not deliberately interact with the player.
Squids suffocate if they are beached on land for too long. While they are on land, they do not move, and stay still until they suffocate. They can take fall damage and burn like any land mob, but, because they are aquatic mobs, they cannot drown. Squids can swim against a current and not get pushed by it. It is extremely hard to find inc sacks and it is impossible to breed squid, which further adds to the difficulty of farming ink sacs. Ink sacks are used to dye sheep and to create a book and quill.
Squid usually spawn in groups of 3-5. They can often be found in the deeper parts of rivers, lakes and almost anywhere in the ocean. If a player creates a pool on land you will most likely find squids spawning inside it unless the pool is higher up than the sea level.
Squids have 5 hearts of health or 10 HP. When killed squids will drop anywhere from 1-3 inc sacks and will drop 1-3 experience points when killed by a player.
